People often ask me how I came up with the name “Alice” for my cartoon strip. When I was in Kindergarten at J. Hampton Moore Elementary in Philadelphia during the school year 1961-62, I was friendly with a very sweet little girl named Alice. It was at a visit to her home, that I discovered the wonderful books by Dr. Seuss which made a huge impression on me. After my kindergarten year, I never saw Alice again, but always retained fond memories of her. In the class picture, Alice is seated in the 2nd row, 3rd from the left; I am standing in the 4th row, 4th from left.
